Lower Taxes

The best way to reduce government spending is to lower taxes. As your State Representative I have supported the permanent repeal of the state equalization property tax and the reduction of the business personal property tax. I was honored to be named a Champion of the Taxpayer by the Arizona Taxpayers Federation. Please review the Arizona Taxpayers Federation cart to view Sam's strong score on tax issues.

Limited Government

Arizona continues to spend too much money on government. That's why I voted against the budget in 2007. The Governor and the Legislature have approved spending year after year that exceeds the rate of growth of the population and personal income. No wonder we are now facing record deficits. We must tighten our belts and stop incurring debt to pay for our wasteful ways.

Transportation

Arizona's growth means that we must constantly be improving our transportation infrastructure. As a member of the House Transportation Committee, I support transportation bills that will improve the quality of life for our citizens and keep commerce moving. I believe public transit is an important part of the transportation equation; in particular, I think bus systems provide the greatest value for our transit dollars and it is the most flexible mode for adaptation to future growth patterns.

Illegal Immigration

When I was elected in 2006, I promised to do something about illegal immigration. I was proud to work on the employer sanctions law that we passed last year. For once we are doing something about the problem and not just talking about it.

Reducing Crime

I have a solid record in the Legislature of supporting law & order. I have voted to provide the resources law enforcement needs to do their jobs and to make Arizona safer. Whether the issue is border security, child predators, vehicle theft or any other crime, it is all about keeping our citizens safe. And this includes defending the right of individuals to keep and bear arms.

Protecting Traditional Family Values

As State Representative, I work to protect the unborn and to defend the sanctity of human life. I am also a strong supporter of traditional marriage—between one man and one woman—and I will oppose any attempt by liberal activists to change this.

Education

I believe we need more discipline in our schools. The U.S. education system is failing to produce students who are ready to compete in the global economy. I don't believe more money is the answer to better education. We need to create serious learning environments on our campuses and send the message to kids that skating by won't be accepted any longer.
